It's one thing to piece together a model based on what's working and what isn't in the realm of eco-friendly driving. Taking a personal vision of green greatness and transforming it into a reality, however, is something else entirely...Liberty Mazda Suzuki likes to call it pure ingenuity. Of course, we could also refer to it as the Suzuki REGINA.
Compact connoisseurs feasted their eyes on the metallic green, white-roofed Regina concept at the Tokyo Auto Show earlier this month. According to an official press release the model is, "a vision of a next-generation global compact car with excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions."1
As officials suggest, "green" doesn't just apply to the electric hue covering the sedan's exterior. The sporty little concept gets a jaw-dropping, 75-miles per gallon fuel-economy rating thanks to its 1,600-pound body weight and excellent aerodynamics. What's more, when using petrol as a fuel source, the REGINA achieves carbon dioxide emissions as low as 70g/km.
At this point, the Suzuki Regina is only for show and the automaker hasn't released powertrain details. However, we've poked around and heard whispers of a turbocharged, 800-cc engine with start-stop and regenerative breaking.
